Banksy strikes again..BIG time. literally

"Amongst the most well known street artists today, Banksy has struck again in perhaps his most ironic piece of work yet. Seen painted on the side of a post office, his slogan "One Nation Under CCTV" was conducted behind a large fence with CCTV (surveillance camera) coverage. The job required the construction of three stories of scaffolding to complete the job and represents one of Banksy's boldest attempts and the irony is brought on by the fact this was all happening under the "eye in the sky" surveillance cameras. However, with the surging popularity of Banksy, increased publicity and large sums his works command (however this was done on a post office), maybe somebody willingly turned the blind eye?"sourced from hypebeast

Style combo from Santa Cruz x Puma

I use to read these skateboard gear catalogs back in jr. high and highschool..the small compact ones that you get in the mail. i forget what store..but its like Eastbay. Im sure you guys know what im talking abuot. btw. eastbay was my bible back in the days..always making wishlists...sneakers only really. off topic, one day reading Eastbay, I come across an indie bball brand called Goatgear..doubt many people followed up on street gear 7 years ago, but yea..now I have a pair of shorts that has Goatgear in large font on my ass hahaha..yeee, ok back to this pack..Santa Cruz was a brand that I always followed but never bought any piece from them, they use to sell it at Pacsun, but I think they are gearing their business towards the skate x street kids, and this combo is the result. I especially like this pack because I currently like the blue over red color orientation. anyways peace out!
thanks to the hype for the pic.

Art: Polynesian Tribal Tattoo Arts

History: "The advent of Christianity in Tonga witnessed the loss of several indigenous practices such as the practice of tatatau or tattooing. Although the art of tattooing was retained in the nation of Samoa, it was completely erased in Tonga. However, the art and practice of tattooing has been enjoying a revival in Tonga in recent years. This is a result of the work of scholars, researchers, visual artists and tattoo artists such as the two brothers - Carl and Arthur (King Afa) Cocker.

Carl and Arthur's knowledge of Polynesian art and culture - specifically the art and tradition of tattooing - has influenced and inspired their approach to reviving the art and practice of Tongan tattoo.

While Carl and Arthur(King Afa) specialise in Polynesian designs, they also do Western and custom made designs at a client's request. Examples of their work can be seen in the galleries. All of the tattoos in the galleries are orginal designs by Carl and Afa and should not be copied or replicated without their permission." - tongatattoo.com

Event: Yumiko Kayukawa @La Luz de Jesus, LA

Yumiko Kayukawa

ARTISTS' RECEPTION
Friday, April 4 2008 ~ 8:00-11:00 pm

Yumiko Kayukawa hails from Sapporo, Japan and has already made a name for herself early in her career for her candy-bright pop paintings of hip young women, animals, and traditional Japanese motifs. Using acrylic and ink, Kayukawa blends fashion illustration, sharp iconic graphics, and meticulously rendered flora and fauna to create images that evoke a dreamy and enigmatically erotic tone. The girls in Kayukawa’s paintings are mysterious and elusive-- using images of both innocence and fetish, in a sexy, subtle way, always engaging the viewer with direct eye contact. The fantasy of these dream girls is mixed with the realistic depictions of nature-- insects, birds, and animals are always present, bringing a sense of the messy and real world crashing joyfully into the lives of these pristine, icy beauties. Traditional Japanese flower motifs and kanji characters used in an untraditional way round out the compositions creating a jolting, modern tone to the paintings.

“I've been creating work in the theme of communion with animals and nature for long time. That feeling of connection inside me is growing and growing through the process of painting. Because of that I feel increasingly sad about the situation between humanity and wildlife. "Extinction" is an extremely scary word. I put that fear into my consciousness to help myself face it” says Kayukawa of her latest group of paintings.

"Her nods to tradition include the integration of calligraphy, free-floating flowers, bubbles, stars, and insects in the work's composition, as well as the sometimes impossibly positioned bodies (much like Shunga, the erotic prints). Her flat, bright style and gorgeous, stylish girls are like advertisements for fun, as impossible as fashion magazine scenarios but equally as desirable.” – The Seattle Stranger
