Sneakers: Ubiq x Kinetic x DC Batman

Ubiq collaborated with Kinetics to create 4 pair of shoes that bring back feelings of nostalgia. In this past year, everyone and their moms, dads, brothers, and so on are designing clothes that remind buyers of why their childhood was so damn great. And honestly, I love it. I hope this trend will continue, but its pretty damn saturated right now. Anyways, I am a big fan of Batman so this particular design made me all warm inside. The base of the shoes are one of Ubiq's most solid sellers..the Fatima model..reminds you of the old skool Vans huh?! But check the suede details. Two designs were made, an all over print and basic neon-piping. Details go into the interior sole as well, that includes the matching neon exterior and a retro batman logo. A matching Tee is available as well.

Artist Profile: Mark Jenkins

Mark Jenkins is an American artist known for his street installations he creates using packing tape. He has shown indoors in galleries in the U.S.--Los Angeles earlier this year--, Europe and Brazil and is represented by Lazarides gallery in London.
"Tape Men", Jenkins first street series in which he made body casts from using clear packing tape were installed in city streets in Rio de Janeiro and later Washington DC. 2003
"Storker Project" In this ongoing project tape babies are "dropped" in various outdoor environments in different cities as part of a "species propagation movement." Currently, there have been over 100 babies installed. 2005-x
"Embed Series" In this series, Jenkins dresses his life size tape casts in clothing to create realistic sculptures which he installs in various positions in urban evironments--stuck into traffic cones, trash bags, cans, etc. He documents the reaction of the people who pass by them with video.

Art Event: Sadly Beautiful: A Vinyl Show

"Sadly Beautiful is an exploration of Contemporary Art through the medium of urban vinyl toys. These ‘toys’ are stylized versions of what we played with as children. They have associations with fun and a stress-free time in our lives. Vinyl toys allow us to daydream of yesteryear. And when artists customize (hand paint, alter the shapes, etc), these portals of nostalgia become works of art".

Clot Royale M65 Jacket

Clot is a clothing label started by Chinese pop singer Edison Chen. I always thought Clot's design on their jackets and t-shirts are a little tacky with their attempt to show Chinese heritage with silk and ancient Chinese royal symbols and such. But this M65 jacket is actually a decent piece. The traditional black chinese silk combined with clean contemporary design gives it a unique character. Available at Juice in Hong Kong.
